Internal Audit Team Meeting

Let's talk about the team meeting during an audit, what does it look like for you as an internal auditor during your Internal Audits?

Don’t worry, everything that you’ve learned still applies and will help you with your internal audits as well as expanding to other audit types if you ever follow that path.

With a particular focus on internal audit team meetings, I’d like to share with you what might be different in an internal audit.

Before I cover what might be different it’s important to understand what would be the same too.

You would still

  • - Allocate some time before the Closing meeting to review your notes and prepare for the closing meeting
  • - Work with your audit team member (if you had one) to collate the findings
  • - Or if you are working as an independent auditor, you would still collate your own findings
  • - As a minimum write up your findings – nonconformances, observations, or improvement opportunities – as you will present them at the closing meeting

So, a lot is still the same.

Honestly, the only difference once again is that you will have been working with a work colleague on an audit team – that’s if you work as a team. Some of you might work independently too. Always remember to manage these existing work relationships so that you get the most out of your workmates as audit team members AND as auditees.

Just because this is an internal audit, it doesn’t mean it’s ok to skip the audit team meeting. It is just as important to be prepared for your closing meeting. You don’t want to turn up at the closing meeting unprepared. Your workmates will never let you forget that one!

As you can see each step of the audit process is still very important to include in your internal audits and they are all transferable skills that you can take with you.

Happy Auditing!
