Fire Danger Index (FDR) Saves Lives

Forest Fire Danger Index (FFDI)

Fire agencies in each state use forecasts based on the forest fire danger index (FFDI) and grassland fire danger index (GFDI) to assist them calculate the fire danger ratings for each state and territory. They may also consider other matters in their determination of the fire danger ratings which are advertised to the public.

The fire danger ratings are used by the fire agencies as a trigger for the level of advice and messaging to the community when a fire starts. However, because fires can threaten suddenly and without warning, community understanding of fire danger ratings and local conditions can save lives.
